In an on-air interview during the Cleveland Browns' Week 3 preseason game vs. the Los Angeles Rams, general manager Andrew Berry shared with Chris Rose and Andrew Berry that the plan was to have four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster come Tuesday afternoon.
Browns GM Andrew Berry to @ChrisRose when asked about the idea of keeping four QBs on their roster: “Honestly, it’s not much of a decision for us. … We have a room that we like all the guys in there. We don’t really see that as a problem. We more see it as an opportunity.”

Berry said, “We don’t really see that as a problem. We see it as an opportunity,” when asked how difficult a decision it would be with the four quarterbacks on cutdown day. Berry stated weeks ago that the team would be comfortable with keeping all four, but there is still speculation that with how well the rookies have played, a Kenny Pickett trade could still be in the works.
Is Berry trying to drive up the value of Pickett and convince teams that they aren’t willing to make a trade including him? Or, with the expanded practice squad roster, are they comfortable keeping four quarterbacks and protecting one or two each week that way?
After watching this Browns defense the last few weeks, unless the offer for Pickett is a third or fourth rounder, it makes sense to keep him for some experience. You certainly want to get plenty of practice reps for Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, but if Flacco were to get hurt, I’m not sure you’d want to rush those guys on the field.
In the last 26 years, the Browns have never properly attempted to develop a quarterback. Having patience and letting things develop will yield the best results.
