The Cincinnati Bengals are gearing up to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 this coming Sunday. The last time the Bengals faced Cleveland in Week 1 was 2023, and it didn't go well. In a sloppy rain-drenched game, the Bengals failed to score a touchdown, Joe Burrow threw for just 82 yards, and Cincinnati lost 24-3.
Obviously, the Bengals are hoping for a different result, and they have added a Super Bowl champion to their roster to help bolster the defensive line.
Per Jordan Schultz, the Bengals are signing former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Mike Pennel.
"The Bengals are signing former Chiefs DT Mike Pennel," Schultz reports on X. "The plan is to start Pennel - a 2x Super Bowl champ- on the practice squad, and then get elevated early in the season. Another veteran addition to Cincinnati."
Pennel is entering his 12th year in the NFL. Last season with the Chiefs, he had three sacks and 25 tackles. Cincinnati now puts him next to Trey Hendrickson and adds him to a group that features Myles Murphy and Shemar Stewart.
