The Cincinnati Bengals have had a tumultuous 2025 season so far. Entering Week 15, the Bengals are 4-9 and likely heading towards a missed playoff berth.
One of the main talking points from this season has been the injury and contract situation with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. While he signed a $29 million, one-year deal to remain in Cincinnati this season, he was hoping to land a longer one this offseason.
But Hendrickson has played in just seven games this season, and after season-ending surgery, the Bengals announced a roster move with Hendrickson ahead of Week 15.
Bengals announce Trey Hendrickson roster move ahead of Week 15
"We have placed DE Trey Hendrickson on the Reserve/Injured list with a hip/pelvis injury," the Bengals announced on Twitter/X.
This move comes shortly after Hendrickson underwent surgery on his hip/pelvis. The injury is one he sustained back in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers, and it only got worse in Week 8 against the New York Jets.
Hendrickson, at age 31, likely wraps up his ninth season in the NFL playing just seven games for the Bengals. If he is done for the season, which seems to be the case, then he might've played his final games in Cincinnati.
More: Trey Hendrickson has likely played his last game with Cincinnati Bengals
He recorded four sacks, 16 total tackles, one pass defended, and one forced fumble this season in his seven games played. While he wasn't on pace to reach 17.5 sacks like he did the last few seasons, he was still a positive contributor on defense.
Hendrickson officially going on Injured Reserve means he will miss the next four weeks, which would mean, if the Bengals could somehow get Hendrickson back, the earliest he could return is the playoffs.
On the verge of elimination, Hendrickson's season is all but over, and he's also likely to depart in free agency. The 2025 season has been a brutal one for the Bengals, and this Hendrickson situation is another example of how rough things have been.
