Bengals, Trey Hendrickson in 'big disagreement' over millions in contract negotiations image

The Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson still can't come to a contract agreement.

ESPN's Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday to explain why.

"The deal is in place for Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals but there's a disagreement over the guaranteed money," Schefter said. "... It's a big disagreement so far."

Schefter goes on to say that it could be as much as a $10 million gap between Cincinnati and its star pass rusher.

The problem, Schefter explains, is the Bengals historically do not guarantee money beyond the first year of a contract.

They made an exception on that for both Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, but they don't want to do so for Hendrickson.

That's why Hendrickson is hanging out in Florida instead of at Bengals training camp.

Hendrickson had 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons. He feels he deserves more.

As it stands, Hendrickson has said he won't pay for the $16 million he's due in 2025. Star defensive ends have been getting between $30-40 million per year in new deals.

Cincinnati needs Hendrickson to have any hope of even a league-average defense this season. A "big disagreement" is not a good sign.
