The Chicago Bears might be in the midst of a changing of the guard at running back, or at least a more even split in work between Kyle Monangai and D'Andre Swift.
A seventh-round pick, Monangai is having a solid rookie season, but he was taking a back seat to Swift over the first half of the season.
However, Monangai exploded for over 100 yards on the ground in Week 9 while Swift was absent due to injury and that has led to Chicago reconsidering how it divvies up touches in the backfield.
Now, in Week 10, Monangai is seeing significant work early on.
While that might be a surprise to some, head coach Ben Johnson hinted this could happen during the week.
Why Bears are giving Kyle Monangai more carries
Head coach Ben Johnson said during the week that he is going to ride the hot hand at running back after Monangai's big game, so there's no telling how Chicago's backfield is going to operate moving forward.
“(Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy) has got a really good feel for guys as they’re rolling. I believe in a guy having the hot hand. So, if one guy if he’s feeling it and giving us a spark, we might lean on that a little bit longer. We've got a really good room," Johnson said.
Swift has fully recovered from his injury after logging a full practice on Thursday, so Monangai's increased workload early on in Week 10 isn't injury-related or the Bears simply limiting Swift's workload.
