Jonathan Owens is stepping into his eighth NFL season, but this time he has one of the most recognizable supporters in sports by his side. Olympic legend Simone Biles, fresh off adding four more medals in Paris, is now embracing a different role: life as an NFL wife in Chicago.

Biles gave fans a glimpse of her new routine just before Week 1, posting an Instagram reel to her 12.2 million followers showing what football weekends look like for her and Owens. From watching “Hard Knocks” together to taking in a Bears preseason game, she admitted it’s a shift from the Olympic stage. “Even though I’m not the one playing, game weekends are a lot as an NFL wife,” she said with a smile.

Balancing careers across two sports

Last summer, the Bears allowed Owens to miss part of training camp so he could be in Paris to watch Biles compete. He returned the favor after she spent much of the 2023 NFL season traveling from Houston to Green Bay almost every weekend to support him while training six days a week.

The two have become one of sports’ most high-profile couples, though Owens is quick to say he doesn’t mind being known as “Simone Biles’ husband.” He joins a group of NFL players who sometimes take a backseat to their partners’ fame, much like Travis Kelce with Taylor Swift or Josh Allen with Hailee Steinfeld.

What Owens brings to the Bears defense

For Chicago, Owens isn’t just a storyline; he’s part of a rebuilt secondary. After stints with the Texans and Packers, the safety signed with the Bears to add veteran depth and physicality to a young defensive backfield.

Known for his toughness and willingness to step up against the run, Owens is expected to rotate heavily with Jaquan Brisker and play key snaps in nickel and dime packages. His experience and communication skills also give defensive coordinator Eric Washington a reliable presence in a unit that struggled at times last season.

With the Bears’ opener against the Vikings on Monday Night Football, Owens will have an immediate test against Justin Jefferson and Minnesota’s passing attack. It’s the kind of challenge that can quickly show how valuable a steady veteran safety can be in a defense looking to turn the corner.

A new chapter in Chicago

Biles capitalized on her Olympic success with a nationwide G.O.A.T. Tour in late 2024, keeping her busy while Owens settled into his first season with the Bears. Now, as the 2025 season begins, she’s leaning fully into supporting her husband at Soldier Field.

For Owens, the move to Chicago means a fresh chance to prove he belongs as a consistent contributor on defense. For Biles, it means trading gold medals for game days, and showing that even the world’s greatest gymnast can still find herself adjusting to life in the NFL world.
