Typically, ahead of 1 p.m. ET kickoffs on NFL Sundays, teams release their injury reports that indicate which players will, and will not, be playing that day.

Almost all of the time, those injury reports are indicative of a player's status for the game — when listed as active, the expectation is then that the player will be on the field. In Week 15, however, that wasn't the case.

The Chicago Bears' leading receiver, Rome Odunze, was initially listed as active, then ruled out just minutes before kickoff against the Cleveland Browns.

Here's what to know about Odunze's injury.

What happened to Rome Odunze?

Odunze has been dealing with a foot injury — he missed the Bears' Week 14 game against the Packers because of the ailment. He was limited in practice ahead of Week 15, and coming into Sunday, the Bears listed him as questionable to face the Browns.

Odunze was then listed as active on the team's injury report, hours before kickoff. The expectation is that he'd be making his return after sitting in Week 14.

However, just minutes before kickoff, that changed. Per Ian Rapoport, the Bears ruled Odunze out pregame after "aggravating his foot injury," despite the receiver being active for the game.

Rome Odunze injury update

Per ESPN, Odunze first started appearing on Chicago's injury report in October with what was classified as a heel injury. Odunze said the injury was "not a simple fix" but he would be monitoring it along with the Bears' training staff.

He missed Week 14 due to a foot injury, then practiced in a limited capacity ahead of Week 15. Odunze, the Bears' leader with 661 receiving yards in 2025, was then listed as active on Sunday before reportedly "aggravating" his foot injury, and he was ruled out against the Browns despite being active.
