The Chicago Bears and their fans were holding their breath at the end of the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers after wide receiver Luther Burden went down with an injury.

Burden's injury occurred on the final play of the game after a mad scramble in the end zone. He was unable to exit the field on under his own power and eventually needed a cart to be taken to the locker room, which had us fearing the worst.

However, Burden has avoided a serious injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who reports that Burden suffered a quadriceps injury and it's not believed to be a significant issue, although he's set for more tests to confirm that.

"Bears WR Luther Burden, who was carted off the field after Sunday night’s game, suffered a quad injury that is not thought to be serious. He will undergo additional testing today," Schefter reported.

Depending on the severity, Burden might be able to suit up for the Week 18 game versus the Detroit Lions. We'll have a better idea of where he stands when the Wednesday injury report is released.

The Bears could also opt to sit the rookie as a precaution with nothing but seeding to play for.

The Bears were eliminated from contention for the No. 1 seed on Sunday night, but Chicago still has to lock in the No. 2 spot with a win. If Chicago loses and the Philadelphia Eagles win, the Bears will fall to No. 3.

Burden's injury came after what was his best game as a pro.

The second-round pick exploded for eight catches for 138 yards, both career-highs, and he found the end zone for just the second time this season.

Burden is now a massively important contributor in the offense, and that's especially true with fellow wideout Rome Odunze's status up in the air.
