The Chicago Bears have gotten off to a solid start in the Ben Johnson era, boasting a 2-2 record coming out of their bye week.
The offense has looked good under Johnson, as he tries to build up former No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams into the franchise quarterback that fans and analysts thought he was coming out of USC.
But if Chicago wants to make their offense fool-proof for Williams, they should make a trade to give their ground game a boost and take a little more pressure off of the former Trojan.
Bears trade idea lands Dolphins running back De'Von Achane
In a trade idea proposed by Josh Weil of Pro Football Network, the Bears would inject some juice in their running back room with the addition of Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane.
Chicago Bears receive: De'Von Achane
Miami Dolphins receive: Roschon Johnson, 2026 second-round pick, 2026 fourth-round pick
"Since he put on a Miami Dolphins uniform, Ahane has been an impactful player. In 32 games played, he has 1,953 yards rushing, 932 yards recieving, and 26 total touchdowns. He has an outstandingly low cap hit of $1.73 million next season and will be eligible for an extension beyond that this season," wrote Weil.
"The Bears need to take a chance here and get Caleb this Swiss Army Knife who makes everyone around him’s job easier, and take the next step as an offense."
While incumbent starter D'Andre Swift has been servicable, his 3.3 yards per carry on the season ranks 145th in the league, and adding another player like Achane to the offense could unlock another level not only on the ground, but in the passing game as well.
Johnson could find his Jahmyr Gibbs-type player for the Bears in Achane, and if Chicago is serious about developing Williams and contending in the NFC North, this is a trade they have to make.
