The Chicago Bears will continue to look to improve moving forward amid an impressive year, and adding help off the edge is one way to do so. A team can never have enough competent edge rushers, especially a contender.
Injuries played a significant role in how the unit performed this year, but that can’t be an excuse. We can’t ignore injuries, but all teams deal with them.
The best way to avoid them is by adding more talent at the position.
Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut predicted the Bears would do just that with the No. 29 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, predicting them to select Damon Wilson II out of Missouri.
“Injuries have been the biggest reason for the defense underperforming this season, but Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen needs more help next season. Mizzou edge rusher Damon Wilson offers enticing length, explosiveness off the edge and he’s got an impressive motor with a penchant for standing out in big games. He might not offer the highest ceiling, but pass-rushing depth is needed in Chicago,” he wrote.
Wilson had an impressive nine sacks, showing he has the ability to change a game in the SEC, arguably the best conference in college football.
There are far worse options out there for the Bears late in the first round.
