Bears get bad free-agent news on star safety Jaquan Brisker image

The Chicago Bears took one of the best defensive backs in the 2022 NFL Draft in the second round in safety Jaquan Brisker.

He's been incredible for the Bears, and this season has been no different. Brisker is now going to be a free agent and will be someone the Bears likely want to bring back.

However, Dan Graziano of ESPN revealed a concerning update on Brisker's free agency for the Bears. With the young safety playing so well, and the two sides not agreeing to an extension yet, there's a strong chance that Brisker leaves this offseason.

"The 2022 second-round pick still doesn't have an extension, which isn't the best sign in terms of his future with a team that has a ton of offseason decisions to make," Graziano writes. "It sounds to me as if Brisker will have an outside market that prices him out of Chicago."

This is a very concerning report from Graziano. Not only does he point out how it's a bad sign that a deal hasn't been worked out yet, but Brisker apparently will have a very active market.

Teams around the league will be going after Brisker this offseason, with the odds the Bears get priced out high enough for Graziano to mention.

They could still bring the star safety back, but based on this report, the Bears might be in the market for a new safety in 2026.

Brisker had 52 tackles, one interception, and eight passes defended this past season, and against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional round, he was all-around the field, recording 14 tackles, one sack, and two pass breakups.

Bears fans might have to come to terms with the 2025 season being Brisker's last in Chicago, as their negative $12.7 million cap figure, combined with an expected active market, might lead to Brisker heading elsewhere this offseason.
