Bears' surprise D'Andre Swift injury report update opens door for Kyle Monangai image

The Chicago Bears threw a bit of a curveball with running back D'Andre Swift on their Friday injury report and it opens the door for another big week for rookie running back Kyle Monangai.

According to the Bears' official injury report, Swift is now questionable to play this week after not practicing on Friday. However, Swift's practice absence is and questionable tag is not injury-related, as he's dealing with a personal matter.

Swift was on the injury report this week because of a groin issue, but he was clearly past that after logging a limited practice on Wednesday and then a full session on Thursday before his "DNP" on Friday.

Of course, if Swift doesn't play, Monangai would be in line for yet another monster workload, as was the case last week when he went off for a huge game.

Kyle Monangai fantasy advice

Monangai ripped off 176 yards on 26 carries in Week 9 while adding three catches for 22 yards in Chicago's 47-42 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

This week, the Bears face a Giants defense ceding the second-most fantasy points per game to running backs, which makes Monangai a borderline RB1 play due to volume and matchup.

Even if Swift does play, Monangai remains someone to roster and possibly even start, as head coach Ben Johnson hinted he would ride the hot hand this week before Swift was listed as questionable.

"I believe in a guy having the hot hand. One guy, if he’s feeling it and giving us a spark, we might lean on that a little bit longer," Johnson explained, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin.

We might get an update on Swift's status Saturday, but if not the final determination on him playing will come an hour and a half before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday.
