Panthers cut ties with former Pro Bowl WR before return to playoffs image

It's been nearly a decade since the Carolina Panthers played in the playoffs.

They're trying to make sure their roster is just right for the stage, and so they made a few changes on Tuesday morning.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Panthers waived WR Hunter Renfrow and safety Demani Richardson.

The Panthers signed WR David Moore to the roster to replace Renfrow.

Carolina has used the former Pro Bowl slot receiver Renfrow quite sparingly. He was inactive for their crucial Week 18 game.

On the season, Renfrow appeared in just six games. He had 15 catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Jalen Coker's impressive emergence made the 30-year old Renfrow's slot contributions irrelevant to the Panthers' offense.

The former Clemson national champion will now likely have to watch the playoffs from afar, unless another team gave the spunky slot guy a chance here in short order.

He made the Pro Bowl after the 2021 season, in which he caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

Since then, though, Renfrow has caught 113 passes in four years (which includes an entirely missed 2024 season with injury).

David Moore, who will replace Renfrow on the roster, has played four games for the Panthers this season and has just one catch for five yards. He did catch 32 passes for Carolina a season ago.
