Can it get worse for Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers? Unlikely. After starting the season 0-2, the Panthers' offensive line took a huge hit with two key players injured.
Guard Robert Hunt suffered a torn biceps requiring surgery that likely sidelines him for the season, while center Austin Corbett tore his MCL and faces an uncertain, potentially lengthy recovery timeline. Coach Dave Canales shared the news on Monday.
NFL insider Mike Garafolo tweeted: "Panthers G Robert Hunt needs surgery on his biceps, which likely knocks him out for the season. Meanwhile, Austin Corbett is getting more medical evaluations on his torn MCL. His timeline is TBD but he could be out a long while as well. Bryce Young’s OL takes two big hits."
Hunt, coming off a Pro Bowl season, signed a five-year deal last year. Corbett, already recovering from previous knee issue, showed visible frustration after Sunday's game vs. the Arizona Cardinals.
The injuries leave Young increasingly exposed just as he tries to build on flashes of promise from the past two seasons. Young struggled early in the narrow loss to the Cardinals but rallied for 328 yards and three touchdowns.
The Panthers' offensive line crisis undoubtedly casts a shadow on Young's development.
