Bryce Young injury update: Panthers QB to miss time with high ankle sprain suffered vs. Jets image

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young limped to the locker room in the third quarter of a Week 7 matchup with the New York Jets.

Young suffered an apparent ankle injury as he worked to evade a sack. While Carolina was on defense, Young exited the field toward the locker rooms at MetLife Stadium.

Here is what to know about Young's injury and what it means moving forward.

Bryce Young injury update

An MRI revealed that Young suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Jets. He is expected to miss Week 8 and possibly beyond, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The timing of the news is especially unfortunate for Carolina, which, with Young, is above.500 for the first time since the 2021 season. After a 1-3 start to the season, the Panthers have strung together three consecutive wins to move to 4-3 ahead of a big matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Young was ruled out for the remainder of Week 7's game after he sustained the injury.

After the game, X-rays on Young's injury came back negative, but The Athletic's Joe Person suggested that an MRI could follow.

He suffered the right ankle injury as he attempted to scramble from New York pass rushers. The Fox broadcast showed a replay of the injury, and head coach Dave Canales confirmed that is when the injury occurred postgame.

On the play, it appeared that Jets DT Jowon Briggs stepped on Young's right leg, causing the ankle injury. Ahead of the fourth quarter, the Panthers initially ruled Young as questionable to return to the game.

This story will be updated.
