The Buffalo Bills haven't had kicker Tyler Bass on the field for the entire season entering Week 12.

Bass dealt with some pelvic soreness during training camp but was able to return for the preseason Week 3 contest and kicked in that game.

However, Bass apparently got injured in between then and the start of the season, which led to him being placed on injured reserve. Bass' injury was listed as a left hip/groin issue and he has not played in a game since.

Bass has been eligible to be activated from injured reserve since Week 5, but that has not happened yet and the mystery continues surrounding his status.

Here's what we know about his status for the rest of the season.

Will Tyler Bass play in 2025?

There is no telling if Bass will play at all this season, as information about his recovery and return timeline has been scarce.

As far as we can tell, the last significant update we received on Bass came on Oct. 31, when head coach Sean McDermott revealed that Bass isn't closer to returning yet.

“No, no,” McDermott said when asked if Bass is close to being back. “He’s doing a really good job though of being a true pro, working, getting himself ready to go. So we’re just [taking it] one day and really one week at a time.”

Luckily for the Bills, they found a fantastic replacement for Bass in Matt Prater, who has made 13-of-15 field goals (86.7%) and 31-of-32 extra points.

Bass had his two best years in 2021 and 2022, but he has struggled a bit in the past two seasons. Now, after his injury-plagued 2025, it'll be interesting to see if the Bills decide to hold on to Bass after this season.

He still has two more years left on his four-year, $20.4 million contract but there is no guaranteed money left on it, so he's a clear cut candidate.
