Why Gabe Davis left Bills for Jaguars, then came back to Buffalo image

Gabriel 'Big Game Gabe' Davis played the 2024 season in Jacksonville for the Jaguars.

He returns there on Sunday as a renewed member of the Buffalo Bills for a clash in the Wild Card Round to open the NFL playoffs.

Davis had originally been a Bills wide receiver, but when he left in free agency in the 2024 offseason, it seemed he'd be gone for a while.

Instead, Davis returned much sooner than planned, and now he gets a chance against his former squad in the postseason.

Why did Gabe Davis leave the Bills for the Jaguars?

Davis was a free agent following the 2023 season, and he had the chance at a solid payday.

The Jags gave him a three-year contract for $39 million.

The Bills were moving in a different direction with their receiver room, so they let Davis leave for that solid contract the Jaguars were offering.

How did Gabe Davis get back to the Bills?

The Jaguars released Davis 14 months after they signed him.

He struggled with injuries in Jacksonville, playing just 10 games in his lone season and catching a total of 20 passes.

Rather than pay him for two more seasons, they moved on.

Gabe Davis playoff stats with Bills

In four seasons with the Bills, Davis had 163 catches for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season.

Big Game Gabe caught at least one touchdown in three consecutive playoff games between 2022-23, including his eight catch, 201 yard, four TD bonanza against the Chiefs.
