The Buffalo Bills saw a chance, and they took it.
It's not yet clear how big a role Gabe Davis will play in his return to the Bills. But Buffalo's newest free agent signing was just lingering out there, available to anyone, and the Bills decided to snag him for themselves.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Bills are signing Davis to begin on their practice squad, where he'll continue his recovery from a torn meniscus to try and get back on the field.
Davis was a fan favorite in Buffalo, in large part thanks to a four-TD game in the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs that helped earn him the nickname Big Game Gabe.

Why Bills signed Gabe Davis before Week 1 vs. Ravens
The Bills took a chance at raising the upside of their wide receiver room by signing Davis.
Buffalo has plenty of WR talent: Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, Tyrell Shavers and Curtis Samuel.

But there's not necessarily someone in that group that screams, "This guy is going to catch four touchdowns in a playoff game."
Davis, coming off his knee injury and a disappointing season in Jacksonville before that, may not be his old self.
But he's also already made that happen. He has end zone upside.

Gabe Davis stats with Bills
The talented wideout left Buffalo after playing his first four seasons NFL seasons in western New York. He had a rough 2024 campaign with the Jaguars. He played in only 10 games due to injury, and in those contests, he totaled just 20 catches.
In four seasons with the Bills, Davis had 163 catches for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season.
Big Game Gabe caught at least one touchdown in three consecutive playoff games between 2022-23, including that eight catch, 201 yard, four TD bonanza against the Chiefs.
The Bills might not need Davis at all. But they've got him back in their building, and from here, they'll have a chance to discover just what he has left in the tank.
