The Buffalo Bills made what was at first a seemingly strange decision late in the fourth quarter of the Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The decision was the Bills not using a timeout to avoid a 10-second runoff after tight end Dawson Knox's touchdown reception was overturned upon review during the Bills' final offensive series of the fourth quarter.

However, after thinking it over a bit, it turns out it was a smart decision from head coach Sean McDermott.

Why Bills didn't use a timeout to avoid 10-second runoff

The Bills didn't use the timeout in order to avoid giving the Eagles more time in the event they tied the game or took the lead.

Instead of having about 15 seconds left on the clock upon getting the ball back, the Eagles had five seconds left.

Ultimately, it didn't end up mattering, as the Bills failed to convert on the two-point conversion after scoring the late touchdown, and Philadelphia recovered the onside kick to finish off the 13-12 victory over Buffalo.
