The Buffalo Bills have promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to be the team's new head coach, taking over from Sean McDermott.

The news has had differing reactions, with some not understanding how the Bills, who wanted change with McDermott going, can then go and hire someone who has been with him for the last couple of years.

Others think it is a good move for the Bills, as it keeps Brady with Josh Allen and that superb offense.

And for CBS' Tony Romo, who was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show, he offered one reason why the Bills might have hired Brady, and I'm not sure how Bills Mafia will feel about it.

"I didn't love them letting Sean McDermott go, I think if you're going to make that play, though, this is the only reason you do that," Romo said. "Is because if you have a stud in your building, might get a head coaching job somewhere else, you keep him in-house. And the only way to do that is to hire him as your head coach."

Did Bills hire Brady just to make sure he didn't leave?

That certainly seems to be what Romo could be implying here, and if that is what Buffalo was thinking, it might not be a good thing.

Why?

Well, the Bills might have only promoted Brady to ensure other teams don't get him. Not because he was the best candidate for the job.

We will never know the "true" reason for Brady's hire, but on face value, it seems like a good move with Allen clearly in mind.

How he fills out his staff will be a fascinating watch over the coming months.

But many are still questioning the hire after the Bills made it clear they wanted change after hitting the "playoff wall" with Brady playing a part in that.
