Matt Prater injury update is huge news for Buffalo Bills in Week 18 image

The Buffalo Bills have had a kicker problem the last two weeks as Matt Prater has been sidelined due to injury.

The team signed kicker Michael Badgley to fill in for Prater and he had a crucial extra point blocked on Sunday that proved to be costly. The Bills have since released him, which was a good sign for Prater's chances of suiting up in Week 18.

On Monday, Bills head coach Sean McDermott revealed that he expects Prater to be available for the contest against the New York Jets this week, but the team will still have to see how he looks in practice before making a final decision.

"Bills coach Sean McDermott said that K Matt Prater is moving in the right direction and should kick this week vs. The Jets. They'll know more once practice gets going," ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg relayed.

Prater has been dealing with a right quadriceps injury that he suffered in Week 15. He has not played or practiced since sustaining the issue.

With the Bills playing on Sunday, we'll get our next update on Prater on Wednesday, when the team releases its first injury report of the week.

Any semblance of practice participation from Prater will be a good sign that he is indeed going to play.

After being eliminated from contention in the AFC East, the Bills have nothing but seeding to play for at this point.

Even still, it would be good to get Prater some action ahead of the playoffs in order to ensure he shakes off any rust he might have.
