Matt Prater injury update from Bills is ominous sign for kicker's playoff status image

The Buffalo Bills once again have a kicker problem, and it comes at the worst time.

The Bills started this season with a kicker issue after placing starter Tyler Bass on injured reserve. Bass is now out for the season after having surgery.

Veteran kicker Matt Prater stepped in for Bass and did a great job, but he missed two games due to injury recently, which forced the Bills to turn to Michael Badgley, which didn't go well.

Now, the Bills once again have a major issue at kicker after Prater re-injured his right quadriceps in his second game back in the Week 18 win over the New York Jets. Prater was forced to leave the game early as a result.

After the game, Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters the team would see how Prater does during the week, but he called the injury "unfortunate," a response that is no doubt ominous for Prater's outlook.

"Bills coach Sean McDermott said that they’ll have to see how K Matt Prater looks tomorrow, but describes it as 'unfortunate,'" ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg reported.

At this point, we'd be surprised to see Prater play next week when the Bills take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round of the postseason.

After all, Prater missed multiple games with the same injury a few weeks back, so one would assume a similar timeline will be in order here.

We'll know more during the week, when the Bills drop their first injury report.
