Bill Belichick spent his legendary New England Patriots tenure beating up on the Buffalo Bills.
Now, he could be looking at a chance to ask for some forgiveness in what would be a shocking way.
The Bills need a new head coach after firing Sean McDermott on Monday. Could Belichick be the man for the job?
That's what Rex Ryan said on ESPN's Get Up on Monday morning. Ryan, himself a former head coach in Buffalo, thinks the Bills should go full-court press to get Belichick after his first season at the University of North Carolina.
"You get the chance to hire the greatest coach in the history of our sport, that's my guy," Ryan said.
MORE: Why Bills had no choice but to fire Sean McDermott
There are likely a lot of Bills fans that would want nothing to do with that.
For one, Belichick would feel like the ultimate nemesis coming to town.
He's also going to turn 74 in April, and he's coming off a bad season at UNC and had an ugly tenure to his time in New England.
But when Belichick had an all-time great QB in Tom Brady, he won so many football games, including six Super Bowl rings with the Pats.
Belichick might like the idea of returning to the NFL and avoiding some of the added responsibilities that come with running a college program.
But when Belichick and the Patriots originally parted ways, there were a lot of NFL openings, and no one wanted to hire Belichick. That may have told the real story.

The Bills will have to be smart about this. If they bring in Belichick for an interview at all, it'll be a massive story. The owner, Terry Pegula, likely will avoid that attention unless he truly believes Belichick is the right man for the job.
Ryan likely won't be the last person to throw his name out there. And until the Bills hire someone new, whether it's BB or otherwise, all sorts of speculation will persist.
