The Buffalo Bills appeared to make a huge addition to their roster on Wednesday.

But on Thursday, their chances of seeing Darius Slay on the field in a Bills uniform took a precipitous hit.

Buffalo had claimed Slay off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who chose to cut ties with him at the start of the week. Slay had just suited up for the Steelers in a loss to the Bills on Sunday.

The news out Thursday could change the whole story, though.

Is Darius Slay retiring?

It appears that Slay is at least considering retirement.

Slay is not going to report to Buffalo, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

“Slay is honored that a first-class organization like the Bills claimed him, but he is going to take some time away from football right now and decide in the next few days if he wants to keep playing,” Slay’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.

Reports on Wednesday also indicated the Eagles had put in a waiver claim. Maybe Slay was hoping for Philadelphia? He just won a Super Bowl there last season.

Whatever the reason, Slay's future is now in limbo.

And for the Bills, who thought they were upgrading their cornerback room, this could be a huge blow.
