The Buffalo Bills are gearing up to face the New York Jets in Week 2 after one of the most memorable wins in franchise history took place in Week 1.
Buffalo overcame a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Baltimore Ravens to start 1-0 in the final home opener in Highmark Stadium. One of the key players in that comeback was Ed Oliver, who had three tackles for loss and forced a late fumble on Derrick Henry that led to a Bills touchdown. Unfortunately for Buffalo, they will be without Oliver in Week 2.
"Bills DT Ed Oliver is out Sunday vs. the Jets due to his ankle injury, HC Sean McDermott announced," ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Ian Rapoport adds that this injury occurred in practice after Oliver was stepped on by a teammate.
"Bills standout DL Ed Oliver, who impressed with a sack and a forced fumble in Week 1, was ruled out for Sunday by coach Sean McDermott. Oliver got stepped on this week and is using a walking boot," Rapoport reports. "There is a short turnaround for TNF against the Dolphins in Week 3, as well."
This will put the Bills at a deficit on the defensive interior, as their top defensive tackle will be out. T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker will need to play above their experience for the next couple of games.
