The Buffalo Bills had a rough outing defensively in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. And while they pulled out the unlikely win in a 15-point comeback in the fourth quarter, they still surrendered over 230 yards on the ground. Their latest signing could be brought in in an effort to address that.

Per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN, the Bills are signing former Washington Commanders second-round pick Phidarian Mathis.

"The Bills signed former Commanders second-round pick DT Phidarian Mathis to the practice squad," Getzenberg reports. "Spot opened up after Matt Prater was signed to the active roster. Played in 12 games for Washington last season."

Considering how poor the defensive line sans Ed Oliver played against Baltimore, bringing in Mathis feels like a kick in the behind to the rest of the defensive line, and sends a clear message - produce or we'll give someone else a chance to.

The Alabama product has appeared in 23 games over his three-year career.
