The Buffalo Bills have added a big fella with a fun name to their roster.
On Wednesday, they announced the signing of Phidarian Mathis to the practice squad.
Mathis played his college football at Alabama, and from there, he was a second-round pick by Washington in 2022.

The 6-foot-4, 312-pound defensive tackle played three seasons for the Commanders. In that time, he appeared in 23 games and had 25 tackles, including two for loss.
He had starred in his final season with the Crimson Tide, putting up 53 tackles and nine sacks to earn second-team All-SEC honors in 2021.
Mathis spent this summer with the New York Jets but didn't stick on the roster.
He's originally from Wisner, Louisiana.
The name Phidarian apparently comes from a Greek origin and means "gift of the gods."
Mathis also goes by "Phil."

The Bills have solid defensive line depth, but they are young and inexperienced on the interior aside from Ed Oliver.
The signing of Mathis likely just gives Buffalo an additional option if any injuries pop up or if the youth at DT proves more difficult to overcome than expected.
