The NFL season is three weeks old, and the player rated the top rookie in the league so far might surprise everyone.
It might even surprise Buffalo Bills fans, and he's on their team.
The player, according to Pro Football Focus: Jackson Hawes.
The rookie tight end has a 91.8 PFF rating through three weeks, the best among every rookie in the NFL.
Hawes caught his first touchdown on Thursday Night Football in Week 3, finding an open space to get on the end of Josh Allen's backhand fling into the end zone.
This is PFF's analysis:
"Hawes recorded a 75.8 PFF overall grade against the Dolphins on Thursday night, highlighted by his first career touchdown — a five-yard shovel pass flipped into a tight window between two defenders. Hawes earned a 76.2 PFF pass-blocking grade (second best) in the game, too. He logged a 62.0 PFF run-blocking grade due to three negative plays, his first such plays of the season. Hawes now owns an 88.2 PFF receiving grade for the season. He has caught all three of his targets for 39 yards and remains seventh in PFF run-blocking grade at the position (78.6). He also places in the top 10 in pass blocking (77.4)."

The Bills drafted almost exclusively defense in 2025, but they went offense to get Hawes.
They already had Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox at tight end, but Quintin Morris left in the offseason.
Hawes looks like a worthy replacement and seemed to even be getting some of Knox's usual snaps against Miami.
The Bills got him at No. 173, late in the fifth round, out of Georgia Tech, a program that develops strong blockers.
Early on, Buffalo is relying on Hawes in that way, but he's already made a couple nice plays as a receiver, too.
Looks like the Bills may have landed a player for the long haul in Hawes.
