Buffalo Bills receiver Tyrell Shavers was coming off a superb game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, posting 90 yards and a touchdown, so it made sense for offensive coordinator Joe Brady to get him involved the following week against the Houston Texans, right?

With Mecole Hardman, Curtis Samuel, and the disciplined Keon Coleman all out, that thought was only reinforced as Shavers was Buffalo's downfield threat, but against the Texans, in what was an odd scenario, Tyrell didn't get a single reception.

Instead, it was Khalil Shakir as the main target, getting eight receptions for 110 yards, with the next best being running back Ty Johnson (three receptions, 45 yards). That, my friends, is a genuine head-scratcher.

But Brady shed some light on why Shavers wasn't a part of the offense.

“Anytime a guy doesn't get a target or get their opportunities, that's obviously something that I didn't do a good enough job of,” Brady said. “I don't think you go any game if you actually do the numbers to get everybody happy, Josh is going to be throwing too many balls than we'd like.

"Shaves did everything right the previous week. So, for him to not get opportunities, I got to do a better job of calling it, Shave's doing the right thing. Should get more opportunities.”

Bills' offense struggling for momentum as playoffs loom

Is the Bills' offense struggling right now? You'd have to say yes.

The lack of weapons, or more so, getting everyone involved, is inconsistent, plus with Allen's protection from his offensive line nearly non-existent, with the Texans' defense getting eight sacks, it does feel like this unit is in a struggle town.

Granted, we are a week removed from the offense putting up 44 points on the Buccaneers, so it isn't all broken, but the inconsistencies are what are making some jump off the Bills bandwagon this season.

If the Bills are to get into the playoffs in good form, the offense has to smooth out and become a consistent unit, oh, and Shavers has to get more involved, particularly if Allen's weapons will remain the same as they were in Houston.

Either way, this Buffalo offense has a host of question marks hanging over it, and even more after the loss to the Texans.
