Who is the Bills' backup quarterback?

Allen's backup is former Chicago Bear Mitchell Trubisky.

After being drafted with the No. 2 pick by the Bears in 2017, Trubisky played four seasons in Chicago. There were highlights from his career in the Windy City, including an NFC North championship in 2018 and multiple playoff appearances.

However, once his time there was up, he found himself in Buffalo for only one season in 2021. This was one of the seasons where Allen did not miss a game; therefore, Trubisky saw limited action in six games.

Trubisky then went to the Pittsburgh Steelers for two seasons from 2022 to 2023. He played just 12 games and never found any true success.

After those two brief seasons, he decided to return to Buffalo for his second stint with the Bills. Again, he's backing up an MVP quarterback, so there is not much to report on from the 2024 or 2025 seasons.

However, in Week 18 of this season, he went nuclear against the New York Jets as the Bills sat Allen and company. Trubisky threw for 259 yards and a whopping four touchdowns.

There is likely no one in this league who could replicate or replace what Allen can do on a football field, but if something were to go wrong, Trubisky would at least offer the Bills a fighting chance.

The Bills only have two quarterbacks on their active roster heading into the postseason.

If Allen were to go down for any reason, it would be Trubisky who would take over the Buffalo offense.
