The Buffalo Bills get the national treatment for Week 2 of the preseason, as they will take on the Chicago Bears Sunday night on Fox. As the end of the preseason draws near, several players will be on the fringe heading into the penultimate game of the preseason, so keep an eye out for these three in particular.
QB Shane Buechele
Buechele played well in the first game against the New York Giants, going 10-of-12 for 91 yards. However, both Mitch Trubisky and Mike White also had good games in their battle for the QB2 spot on the depth chart. The Bills will all but certainly be keeping Trubisky and White as the two backups, which leaves no room for Buechele.
CB Daequan Hardy
The Penn State product was a sixth-round pick by the Bills in the 2024 NFL Draft, but didn't see the field last season. He's a bit undersized to be a boundary cornerback, and the Bills already have two reliable nickel guys in Taron Johnson and Ja'Marcus Ingram. Elsewhere, Hardy could potentially find a roster spot, but it feels very difficult to find one for him in Buffalo.
WR Curtis Samuel
The Bills signed Samuel to a three-year, $24 million deal ahead of the 2024 season. They probably had more than a 31-catch season in mind when they brought him aboard. I don't know if the Bills would flat out cut him, but if receiver-needy teams call them about a trade, that would be something they should pursue to make way for a guy like Tyrell Shavers who is younger and has a bit more juice to offer.
