The Baltimore Ravens gave the kicking job to rookie Tyler Loop this season.

He's been reliable, up until the final play of the regular season.

But with a kick to go to the playoffs, Loop missed wide right.

The Steelers led 26-24 and were about to lose, until Loop missed.

Instead, Pittsburgh is in the postseason. Baltimore is going home.

And one name loomed large.

Why Tyler Loop became Ravens kicker for Justin Tucker?

Tyler Loop is the Ravens' kicker because of the offseason release of Justin Tucker.

Tucker had been the Baltimore kicker from 2012 through 2024.

The Ravens released Tucker in May as the NFL investigated him for allegations of sexual misconduct that eventually led to a suspension that Tucker served while he was a free agent.

They had already drafted Loop in April in the sixth round, but it took a bit of time before Baltimore made the final decision on Tucker.

Loop was a reliable kicker at the University of Arizona, with a career-long of 62 yards.

He entered Sunday night 29-for-32 on his NFL field goal attempts as a rookie.

But in the biggest moment, he missed.
