The reverberations are still being felt around the NFL from the Baltimore Ravens' decision to part ways with head coach John Harbaugh on Tuesday night.

At least in Baltimore, the spotlight has now turned to Lamar Jackson, who is heading for a major contract restructuring process this offseason.

The star quarterback has played his entire NFL career for Harbaugh, but will have a new leader next season.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley wrote all about the Harbaugh decision in a new article, and one of the things he delved into was Jackson's role in the whole process.

For one, there's the upcoming contract saga.

"A team source pointed out that it wasn't a coincidence that the dismissal of Harbaugh came at a time when Baltimore needs to get a new contract completed with Jackson, whose salary cap figure jumps to $74.5 million this offseason," Hensley wrote. "A new coach might make it easier to get a new long-term deal done with Jackson."

There's also the fact that Jackson hasn't exactly been the most present at offseason activities under Harbaugh's leadership.

"Jackson's lack of participation in voluntary spring workouts and his new routine of sitting out one practice per week this season became a point of friction between Jackson and the coaching staff, the team source said," Hensley wrote. "A new coaching staff might be able to reconnect with Jackson."

Also of note: Jackson will surely be looking at a new offensive coordinator, too.

"Jackson won the NFL MVP award in his first seasons with a new offensive coordinator (2019 with Greg Roman and 2023 with Todd Monken)," Hensley wrote. "Could a new head coach take Jackson to new heights?"

There's a lot still to be figured out here. It'll be hard to judge anything until Jackson has a new deal, the Ravens have a new coach and they start putting the rest of the pieces together.

But it's a surprising turn of events, for sure, and it'll impact the future of the Ravens as a franchise and the future of Jackson, too.
