NFL insider names Steelers, Ravens possible landing spots for high-profile coach image

Sean McDermott is out as Buffalo Bills head coach and one NFL insider has pegged two teams as possible landing spots.

Those two teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Now, to be clear, this appears to simply be speculation from Pelissero, but if we've learned anything over the years, never completely ignore a comment like this from an NFL insider, because sometimes said comment comes to fruition.

"Teams to watch for Sean McDermott, potentially the Steelers, although that would be outside their normal bucket of who they like to hire," Pelissero said. "Baltimore is certainly one that I could see making a lot of sense."

As Pelissero notes, McDermott doesn't exactly fit the mold of the kind of head coaches the Steelers like to hire.

The common bond between Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin is they were young, first-time head coaches when the Steelers hired them. What they do have in common with McDermott is all three were defensive-minded coaches.

Because he doesn't fit the mold of what the Steelers typically prefer, we would say Pittsburgh is less likely to hire McDermott than the Ravens are.

In Baltimore, McDermott would be a good in the sense that he'd be taking over a Ravens team that is ready to win now. McDermott did no shortage of that in Buffalo, with the former Bills head coach posting an impressive.662 win percentage over nine seasons.

However, McDermott failed to do in Buffalo what John Harbaugh failed to do in Baltimore over his last several seasons: win a Super Bowl, or even get to one.

That might be cause for pause for the Ravens if they are considering McDermott for their vacancy.
