The Atlanta Falcons have shored up their new President of Football position, and now it's time to turn attention to hiring a general manager and head coach.
On Saturday, the Falcons announced that the President of Football position will be taken by their former quarterback and franchise legend, Matt Ryan, which was expected.
The Falcons interviewed four others for the President of Football position, and the same interviews were for the general manager role as well, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Atlanta has interviewed Detroit Lions chief operating officer Mike Disner, Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham, Carolina Panthers executive vice president Brandt Tillis and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football operations, Josh Williams.
Of those four candidates, Russini notes that Disner was "tremendous" and "polished" and Williams was "excellent."
Considering those two stood out above the others, it's fair to assume they might be the favorites to land Atlanta's vacant general manager position.
However, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero notes that the Falcons will continue to keep their options open for the role, so more interviews could be coming.
Once the general manager is hired, the Falcons will then work on finalizing who their new head coach will be.
According to several reports, here's the list of candidates the Falcons have requested to interview:
- Klint Kubiak -- Seahawks offensive coordinator (NFL Media)
- Anthony Weaver -- Dolphins defensive coordinator (NFL Media)
- Vance Joesph -- Broncos defensive coordinator (The Athletic)
- Kevin Stefanski -- former Browns head coach (ESPN)
- Jeff Hafley -- Packers defensive coordinator (ESPN)
- Robert Saleh -- 49ers defensive coordinator (ESPN)
It remains to be seen exactly how long it'll be before the Falcons hire a new general manager and head coach, but things could move quickly now that Ryan is on board.
