The Arizona Cardinals haven't had the services of running back Trey Benson since Week 4.

Benson suffered a knee injury in that game that required arthroscopic surgery and landed him on injured reserve.

However, the Cardinals started the clock on Benson's return last week after designating him to return from injured reserve last week.

Benson wasn't able to return to the field in Week 12, but there is hope he'll be able to play in Week 13. Here's what we know.

Will Trey Benson return in Week 13?

There was no mention of Benson's status for Week 13 during head coach Jonathan Gannon's media availability, so we don't have an answer to this question yet.

If you're looking for a reason for optimism, Benson was able to log three limited practices last week after being designated to return from injured reserve, so that's promising for his chances of playing on Sunday.

We would say Benson has a better than 50/50 chance to play in Week 13. We'll get our next update on Benson on Wednesday, when the Cardinals release their first injury report of the week.

Benson took the reins of the Cardinals' backfield after the season-ending injury to fellow running back James Conner, although he only had the job for one week because of his aforementioned injury.

The expectation is that Benson will take over lead-back duties from Bam Knight upon his return, as the Cardinals need to see what they have in their 2024 third-round pick the rest of the season.
