The Arizona Cardinals will go yet another week without running back Trey Benson.
Benson, who is still working his way back from a knee injury he suffered in Week 5, was ruled out once again for Week 13, head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters Friday.
This is the second-straight week in which Benson has been ruled out after being designated to return from injured reserve last week.
Benson turned in four consecutive limited practices dating back to last week, but he was downgraded to a non-participant on Thursday, which led to concern that he had suffered a setback in his recovery.
Did Trey Benson suffer a setback?
When asked about a possible setback for Benson, Gannon would not say that was the case. He also wouldn't say if Benson would be back this season.
"Gannon won’t use that term. Continues to say Benson is evaluated day by day. Since he’s already on IR, next big step is next week. Deadline to put him on roster approaches," Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reported.
Benson was designated to return from injured reserve on Nov. 19, which gives the Cardinals 21 days to activate him. If that doesn't happen before the 21 days are up, Benson will be forced to miss the rest of the season.
Knowing that timeline, the Cardinals have until Dec. 10 to move him up to the active roster, which leaves open the possibility that we don't see Benson until Week 15, which comes after the deadline.
If we don't get another update from Gannon at the top of next week, the next injury update for Benson will come on Wednesday, when the Cardinals drop their first Week 14 injury report.
