Texas hires former Florida coach to fill vacancy image

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have officially filled their running backs coach vacancy, hiring Jabbar Juluke. Juluke arrives on the Forty Acres following four seasons with the Florida Gators and will replace Chad Scott, who was dismissed Tuesday after one season in Austin. Scott had been hired last year to replace Tashard Choice, who left Texas to become the running backs coach for the Detroit Lions.

Juluke began his coaching career in 1996, spending 17 years in Louisiana high school football. Most notably, he served as the head coach at Edna Karr H.S. (New Orleans) for nine years, guiding the Cougars to seven district championships and the Class 4A state title in 2012. Juluke was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association 4A Coach of the Year in both 2010 and 2012. He moved to the college ranks in 2013, coaching at Louisiana Tech (2013-2015), LSU (2016), Texas Tech (2017), and Louisiana (2018-2021) before joining Florida ahead of the 2022 season.

Juluke has strong ties to the New Orleans area and Louisiana as a whole, a region consistently brimming with blue-chip high school talent. He has a strong recruiting record at his previous stops, landing QB DJ Lagway, RB Trevor Etienne, and RB Jadan Baugh at Florida, as well as RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, S Grant Delpit, and OT Saahdiq Charles at LSU, among others. Notably, Baugh rushed for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025 and has up to two years of eligibility heading into 2026.

Juluke’s experience and relationships in both Louisiana and Florida give Sarkisian a trusted presence as the Longhorns continue to compete for top talent moving forward.
