Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is again navigating NFL rumors as the season stalls. Now one influential voice believes his future in Austin may hinge on quarterback Arch Manning’s abilities.
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde told The Dan Patrick Show that while Texas is not actively looking to make a change, Sarkisian faces growing pressure after a 7-3 start to a season that began with national title expectations.
Forde said he “wouldn’t be shocked” if Sarkisian explores NFL opportunities, adding credibility to earlier reporting from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini that linked the coach to potential openings, including the Tennessee Titans. Sarkisian blasted the reports last month, calling them “completely unprofessional,” and his agency has denied any contact with NFL teams.
But Texas’ play and the program’s reliance on Manning in the years ahead have fueled speculation. Forde suggested that the former No. 1 recruit’s development could factor into Sarkisian’s long-term outlook.
“If you are pretty well tethered to Arch Manning and you don’t think Arch Manning’s that good, maybe you’re like, okay, this might be time to get out,” he said.
Sarkisian, who signed an extension through 2031 worth $10.8 million annually, closes the regular season against Arkansas and No. 3 Texas A&M as the Longhorns fight to scrap fading postseason hopes.
