Jordan Shipley's wife shares update after Texas great is discharged from hospital image

Jordan Shipley has been discharged from the hospital less than two weeks after suffering severe burns in a Jan. 6 accident on his family’s ranch in Burnet, according to an update shared by his wife, Sunny, on Saturday.

Shipley revealed the news in a social media post, calling her husband’s recovery “nothing short of a miracle.” Shipley had been treated at the Dell Seton Burn Center after sustaining third-degree burns to roughly 20 percent of his body when a farming machine he was operating caught fire.

“This week has been life changing in many ways … but because I know so many are praying, I wanted to let you know that we left the hospital,” she wrote. “Numerous doctors, nurses and specialists kept telling us, as we were being discharged, that he is nothing short of a miracle.”

Shipley added that while her husband remains in significant pain, the couple is approaching the long recovery ahead “with joy and praise.” The family plans to stay near the Austin hospital as Shipley continues dressing changes and undergoes physical and occupational therapy.

According to a statement previously released by the Texas Longhorns football program on behalf of the family, Shipley was able to escape the burning equipment and was driven by a ranch worker to a local hospital before being airlifted to Austin. Burnet is approximately 50 miles north of the city.

Shipley’s condition since the accident has been closely monitored by the Texas Longhorns community. He was initially listed in stable but critical condition, but otherwise survived injuries that could have been fatal.

Shipley starred for Texas from 2006-09 and remains one of the most decorated wide receivers in program history. His 248 career receptions are a school record, and he was a two-time All-American and 2009 Biletnikoff Award finalist.
