Texas A&M fans took to social media Saturday to rip former Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel after he failed to appear as the scheduled celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner and one of the most iconic players in program history had been promoted by ESPN all week ahead of the College Football Playoff first-round matchup between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Miami Hurricanes at Kyle Field. When Saturday morning arrived, Manziel was nowhere to be found. 

However, his social media posts told a story of a late Friday night in Miami. Fans quickly voiced their frustration, with several posts referencing Manziel’s well-documented off-field history. 

One fan wrote that missing the show after reportedly being in Miami the night before was “the most Johnny Manziel thing ever.” Others questioned ESPN’s decision to rely on him for a live appearance. 

ESPN brought in Alex Caruso, a former All-SEC guard at Texas A&M who helped the Oklahoma City Thunder win an NBA championship last season.

Manziel finished his Texas A&M career with 7,820 passing yards, 2,169 rushing yards and 93 total touchdowns, remaining a fan favorite despite an underwhelming NFL career. 

But Saturday’s no-show reignited criticism and disappointment among Aggies fans who expected their former star to show up on college football’s biggest stage.
