Marcel Reed reacts to the Aggies’ miracle comeback that kept a perfect season alive image

Marcel Reed stood at the podium after Texas A&M completed the largest comeback in school history, and the first words he offered were rooted in honesty rather than heroics.

“If I’m being honest, like I did not…I didn’t know where I was in the field,” he said, revisiting the fourth-and-12 scramble that flipped the momentum of a game the Aggies once trailed 30–3. “I just knew I had to get somewhere. I was honestly surprised we went for it…but I’m just glad I got the first down and we could continue to drive.”

From that moment forward, Kyle Field watched Reed drag the Aggies back from the brink. The sophomore threw for 439 yards and three touchdowns, guiding Texas A&M to a 31–30 victory that kept their perfect season alive and sent an undefeated 10–0 record roaring into November.

But Reed didn’t gloss over what came before the miracle.

“We killed ourselves in the first half,” he said. “It had nothing to do with them at all. We told each other we didn’t need to worry about the score. All we needed to beat was the clock.”

Inside the locker room, Reed gathered the offense, only for the entire roster to circle around him. “I gave a little bit of a speech,” he said. “We have to hit them in the mouth and can’t let them push us back…Defense, keep doing what you’re doing. Offense, we got to score the ball.”

They did. And when the Aggies produced the final defensive stop, Reed finally let the emotion hit him.

“Relief,” he said. “I came on the field and we took that knee and I just looked up with my arms up like this to God. The story was kind of already written.”

Even the Heisman question didn’t move him off message. “I don’t even know,” Reed said. “It doesn’t matter to me…We’re just focused on winning games right now.”
