Penn State coaching search has PSU recruiting class ranked miserably on signing day image

Penn State dismissed James Franklin, and he's off at Virginia Tech now, flipping PSU commits left and right.

Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions still don't have a new head coach. And with Wednesday being national early signing day, the PSU wait is resulting in a horrific outcome.

College football writer Max Chadwick shared a brutal stat on X on Wednesday:

"It’s National Signing Day. Penn State, still without a head coach, is 136th in recruiting. There are 136 FBS teams."

The most engaged with reply simply asks, "Is that good? Asking for a friend."

That about sums it up.

Penn State is flailing. The Nittany Lions couldn't land Kalani Sitake. They didn't end up with Brian Hartline.

What is PSU going to do?

A new coach will be behind the eight-ball, because there's only so many recruits to go around. If they're all committed elsewhere, there'll be no way to save the day.

And clearly, a team can't compete in the Big Ten with a recruiting class worse than every other FBS program in the country.

This is slowly turning into a nightmare for Penn State.

Franklin is likely getting the last laugh on this one from down in Blacksburg.
