Superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons rose to prominence on the Dallas Cowboys, but his Green Bay Packers era may be even more fruitful. The 26-year-old signed a four-year, $186 million deal with the Packers when they traded for him on August 28, and he got a sack along with a run stuff in their Week 1 win.
Parsons publicly requested a trade on August 1, citing frustrations with the Cowboys' front office for how it handled his contract negotiations, via his social media. The Penn State alum was in the last year of his rookie deal and didn't want to play without long-term security.
Although Cowboys owner/president Jerry Jones couldn't get Parsons' extension done, he still had nice things to say about him on Tuesday, via 105.3 The Fan.
"Not one thing unexpected for me," he said of Parsons's Packers debut. "From what I saw of him, I thought he was able to get in there and play without having any influence from his back. I say that with a straight face, I do. Having said that, I wish him well."
Micah Parsons could take Packers to next level
Green Bay was already a playoff contender before getting Parsons, as it returned many of the players on last year's Wild Card team. However, adding the 2021 No. 12 overall pick could help it make its first NFC Championship appearance since 2020.
Parsons, who has notched 12-plus sacks in each season, now forms a fearsome edge rusher duo with fellow veteran Rashan Gary. The latter player recorded 1.5 sacks in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions and has 40.5 sacks in 91 career games. Meanwhile, Parsons has 53.5 sacks in 64 games.
Up next for the Packers is a Thursday night duel with the Washington Commanders.
