How serious was the Eagles trade offer for Micah Parsons? Insider suggests it was massive image

On the morning of the NFL's opening kickoff, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Philadelphia Eagles inquired about trading for Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons.

The two teams that open the season tonight are heated division rivals, and Schefter continued in his reporting that "the Cowboys had no interest in trading Parsons in the division, especially to the defending Super-Bowl champion Eagles."

It almost seems like a no-brainer that Dallas would immediately hang up the phone on Philadelphia for asking about their former Penn State standout.

Could the Eagles Actually Have Pulled Off a Micah Parsons Trade?

While the Eagles had some serious gall to inquire about a rival's best player, they're no strangers to making in-division trades.

In August 2024, Philadelphia traded a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks to the Washington Commanders for wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

To go back even further, and involving Parsons himself, the Eagles traded up with the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, moving up to 10th overall to select Alabama wideout Devonta Smith, while Dallas moved back to 12th overall and ended up drafting Parsons at that spot.

However, those trades are minor compared to what it would've taken for the Eagles to land the former Nittany Lion, who also happens to be a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

If Dallas had even entertained an offer from Howie Roseman, it would've had to have had an "NFC East tax," considering the Cowboys would've had to have seen Parsons play against them twice a year.

The package from Philadelphia would've likely had to have included up to three first-round picks and a young, ascending defensive tackle, Jalen Carter.

But, thankfully for Cowboys fans, Parsons ended up with the Green Bay Packers, and even though that might be a tough pill to swallow, it would've been even tougher to see him in Philly.
