The New York Giants are 0-2 and are teetering on the edge of another lost season.
While it's still early, the Giants' schedule is brutal and offers no breaks for a team seeking stability. They play the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Philadelphia Eagles over the next four weeks.
Worst-case scenario, New York could have five to six losses by mid-October, rendering their season lost. If that turns out to be reality, they will certainly be sellers at the trade deadline, and lucky for them, they have players on their roster that other teams should be interested in.
Giants Trade Idea Sends Kayvon Thibodeaux to Lions for Draft Capital
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently updated his 2025 NFL Trade Block Big Board entering Week 3, and for the Giants, he has former Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux listed as a top trade chip.
"The Giants could look to cash in the 24-year-old before the trade deadline if they can't start stringing some wins together. Sunday's overtime loss to Dallas is the sort of game that teases a breakthrough, but if New York doesn't actually get one, big changes could be coming," wrote Knox.
"Trading Thibodeaux to a contender this year could give New York the sort of draft capital that would be extremely valuable for a new, rebuilding front office."
Thanks to the Giants' depth at pass rusher, the former fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has become expendable. With superstar Brian Burns already on the roster, New York can trade Thibodeaux to free up playing time for this year's third overall pick, Abdul Carter.
Thibodeaux is a talented player, but he has not lived up to his draft selection. He's only recorded double-digit sacks once in four seasons in New York, and a change of scenery could benefit his career.
The Detroit Lions were listed as a possible destination for the former Oregon Duck, and it seems like a good fit. Aside from Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit doesn't have much else in the pass rush department, and while Thibodeaux isn't a bona fide star, he would certainly provide an upgrade at an otherwise weak position.
Knox has the potential return as a 2026 second-round pick, and that could be a valuable asset to a rebuilding team like the Giants.
