Dillon Gabriel gets poor update on starting possibility following Browns win image

The Cleveland Browns picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, shocking the 2-0 Green Bay Packers and turning the NFL world upside down.

Scoring 13 unanswered points, Cleveland was able to come back from down 10 late in the fourth quarter. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco performed well, completing 21 of his 36 pass attempts for no touchdowns and an interception.

While some may still be clamoring for the Browns to turn to rookie signal-caller Dillon Gabriel, as long as Flacco keeps stacking wins, he's not going anywhere.

Mary Kay Cabot Says Browns Are in ‘No Rush’ to Get Dillon Gabriel Out There

In a recent appearance on Cleveland's 92.3 The FAN's Ken Carman Show, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot revealed what she felt it would take for the team to bench Flacco.

"I think it depends on how Joe looks over the next couple of weeks. I don’t think they’re in any rush to get Dillon out there. I think they’re in a stretch right now of four out of five games on the road. They’re facing three really tough NFC North teams, playoff teams, and great defenses. So, they have a lot of things going on right now," said Cabot.

"I think it behooves them to have a veteran presence in there. But certainly, he’s got to make sure that he’s protecting the football. That’s job number one. And if he can do that, then he’ll keep his job."

If the 40-year-old Flacco can start stringing wins together, that would certainly change the outlook for the Browns this season.

While the prospect of starting the former Oregon Duck is exciting, given that you don't know what you have in Gabriel, the Browns benefit from having a veteran under center who knows what it takes to win football games.
