Browns insider makes Dillon Gabriel prediction ahead of Packers matchup image

Dillon Gabriel saw his first game action this past Sunday when he was inserted in the fourth quarter of the Baltimore Ravens' blowout victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The former Oregon standout orchestrated a scoring drive, completing all three of his pass attempts for 19 yards and a touchdown pass.

Despite the promising showing, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski reiterated this week that Joe Flacco is still the team's starting quarterback and that wouldn't change when the Green Bay Packers come to town for a Week 3 showdown.

Browns Insider Tony Rizzo Believes Dillon Gabriel Will Get Another Opportunity This Week

Flacco may remain the starter, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of Gabriel seeing some action if the game against Green Bay starts to get out of hand.

Tony Rizzo, Browns insider and host of ESPN Cleveland's Tony Rizzo show, predicted that the former Oregon Duck would once again appear this week.

"Gabriel is going to play, it's just a matter of when. Tony (Grossi) asked the coaches, and the coaches said 'We aren't going to think about that.'" Rizzo said.

"I'm going to tell you if the Browns are getting beat, 10-0 or 14-3 at halftime, I would not be surprised to see coach Stefanksi put in Gabriel."

Similar to how Gabriel was tasked with clean-up duty against the Ravens, the 2024 Heisman finalist could have another chance to show what he's got against the Packers.

Green Bay has been dominant through the first two weeks of the NFL season, and it's not hard to imagine them building a large lead early against the lowly Browns.

At a certain point, though, when does Cleveland make the permanent switch from Flacco to Gabriel? The 40-year-old veteran has little to no upside and provides nothing for the future of the Browns.

Gabriel, on the other hand, is a wild card and could provide a spark to a Browns offense that desperately needs it.
