Trinidad Chambliss agrees to new Ole Miss deal pending NCAA eligibility waiver image

Trinidad Chambliss has agreed to a new contract with Ole Miss for the 2026 season, contingent on the NCAA granting him an additional year of eligibility, according to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger

School officials are optimistic the waiver request will be approved, which would allow the veteran quarterback to return for a sixth season of college football with the Ole Miss Rebels.

Chambliss has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country this season and delivered another standout performance in the Rebels’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal win over the Georgia Bulldogs. He completed 30-of-46 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. For the season, Chambliss has completed 66.4% of his throws for 3,660 yards, 21 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

A transfer from Division II Ferris State, Chambliss spent four seasons with the Bulldogs but only appeared in two. He redshirted in 2021 and is seeking a medical redshirt for the 2022 season, citing documented respiratory issues that ultimately required surgery.

“I’ve only played three seasons of college football,” Chambliss said Dec. 30 at Sugar Bowl media day. “I feel like I deserve to play four.”

The waiver request is under review by the NCAA, which evaluates cases individually. If denied, the agreement could set the stage for potential legal action, as similar eligibility disputes have increasingly ended up in court.

For now, Chambliss remains focused on the postseason. Ole Miss will face the Miami Hurricanes on Jan. 8 in the CFP semifinals, with a berth in the national championship on the line.
