Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons will likely miss another game on Saturday. After reportedly being held back in practice, the Rebels starter is "unlikely to contribute significantly" against Tulane, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Simmons could be available in an emergency role, which is similar to last week vs. Arkansas. However, the ankle injury will keep him on the sidelines.
Trinidad Chambliss is expected to get his second start for Ole Miss. This comes after Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin believed Simmons would start this week. But given the circumstances and this not being a conference matchup, the outlook is to keep Chambliss under center.
"I would anticipate Austin being fine to play and being our starting quarterback [against Tulane]," Kiffin said earlier this week about Simmons.
The move will put Chambliss, the division II transfer from Ferris State, in a quarterback battle with former BYU standout Jake Retzlaff, who has thrown for 522 yards with eight total touchdowns in three games this season.
Chambliss completed 21-of-29 passes for 353 yards with two touchdowns last week.
